Alcalá de Henares is around 30 km away from Madrid. Its university and historic precinct are among the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Please visit the city council web page for a quite complete tourist information or the Wikipedia for more general info.- Arriving by plane: although
Madrid
airport (MAD) is between Madrid and Alcalá, there is no direct public
transportation to Alcalá. Unless taking a taxi, the trip will
pass through Madrid.
- A taxi trip would take about 30 minutes and should cost about 40-45 euros (please consider both amounts as lower bounds, strongly dependent on traffic jams).
- Two buses connect the airport and Madrid in around 40 minutes:
- The Express line to "Atocha", then see the "arriving by train" instructions.
- The line 200 to "Avenida de América", then see the "arriving by bus" instructions.
- Subway line 8 takes around 30 minutes to the "Nuevos Ministerios" Cercanías (short-distance train) station in Madrid. Then, see the "arriving by train" instructions.
- The line C1 of the Cercanías (short-distance) trains connects the Terminal T4 and the main stations in Madrid, Atocha (30 minutes trip) and Chamartín (15 minutes trip). From there, see the "arriving by train" instructions.
- Arriving by train: The lines C2 and C7 of the Cercanías (short-distance) trains connect Madrid and Alcalá. Both lines pass through the main stations in Madrid:
- "Atocha" (35 minutes trip).
- "Nuevos ministerios" (45 minutes trip).
- "Chamartín" (50 minutes trip).
- Arriving by bus: The lines 223 (day) and N202 (night) of the short-distance buses, connect Madrid and Alcalá in around 40 minutes. Departure station in Madrid is "Avenida de América".
- Arriving by car: Alcalá is next to the A-2 highway, which connects it to Madrid. The airport is also close to the A-2.
- Moving around in Alcalá: many parts of the historical center are pedestrian. For non-walking distances, there are several city bus lines.
